This month we're bringing our discussion of 'things going on in the art world' a little closer to home, by highlighting the project we're trying to get off the ground with our 190th anniversary coming up in 2017.
Hazel Hodgins is a dance and sound artist, who has very close ties to the shop as the seventh generation of the Hopkins family, and worked here since she was 15 throughout her education.
In 2014 she set up her company, Spaced Contemporary Theatre, which aims to create and present work across physical and digital spaces. In terms of commissioned, funded or other wise supported work she now has Toe Tales (one minute dance film commissioned for Dance Ireland 21st Anniversary) (2013), Soundscape for Watermark Exhibition(2014), #SpacedLIMERICK (2014), Not-ART-ificial (2015) as part of her professional portfolio.
Her primary interests are in dance for older people, soundscape composition and exploring alternative/challenging traditional modes of presentation of live arts. Hazel's aim is to collect the stories and memories people have of our shop from over the years, to compose a piece that conveys the magic and history of Hopkins in celebration of our 190th anniversary. While a lot of the material will come from family members, the piece wouldn't be complete without the input of our customers, because without all our valued customers, we wouldn't still be here after so long!
So, if you have a story and want to get in touch and have Hazel record it (only audio, no video!) contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or Hazel directly at email@example.com. Feel free to pass on those details to anyone you think would have something to contribute.
